How to rotate or flip an image
- Choose your image. Drop a JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF onto the box above.
- Turn or mirror it. Use Left 90°, Right 90° or 180° to turn it, and Horizontal or Vertical to mirror it. You can combine them; the preview always shows exactly what you will download.
- Save. Keep the original format or choose JPG, PNG or WebP, then click Apply and save.
Your image is processed on your own device and is never uploaded.
Why photos come out sideways
Phones and cameras do not always rotate the pixels when you hold them sideways. Instead they save a small “orientation” note inside the photo that tells apps how to display it. Some websites, printers and older programs ignore that note, so a picture that looks right on your phone appears sideways once it is uploaded or emailed.
This tool reads the photo the way your phone shows it and saves a version where the pixels themselves are upright. That fixes the problem everywhere, because the file no longer depends on the orientation note.
Rotate vs. flip
- Rotate turns the whole picture, like turning a printed photo on a table. Use it for sideways or upside-down photos.
- Flip horizontal mirrors left and right. It is useful for selfies, where the front camera can save a mirrored image and text appears backwards.
- Flip vertical mirrors top and bottom, for example to correct a reflection or a page that was scanned the wrong way.
Does rotating lose quality?
A 90° or 180° turn moves every pixel to an exact new position, so nothing is blurred or resampled. The only possible loss comes from the file format: saving as JPG compresses the image again. If you need it to stay pixel-perfect, save as PNG or WebP. For everyday photos, a JPG saved once more looks the same to the eye.
Frequently asked questions
Can I rotate by a small angle, like 5°, to straighten a photo?
This tool turns images in 90° steps, which keeps them perfectly sharp. Small-angle straightening is not supported here.
How do I fix a mirrored selfie?
Choose Horizontal under Flip. Any text in the picture will read the right way round again.
What is the largest image I can use?
Files up to 40 MB and about 50 megapixels. That covers photos from almost every phone and camera.
Is a rotated GIF still animated?
No. A GIF is saved as a still image of its first frame.
Need to fix a PDF page or a video instead?
Use Rotate PDF for documents, or Rotate Video for a clip filmed the wrong way.
